Simply put, politics is everything and anything that involves making a decision in or for a group of people. This might be at work (Office Politics), at home (Family Politics) or in local and national government.
We have all experienced the politics of working in a hierarchical structure, where people at the top make decisions, while we the workers have no real influence. Many corporations still operate this way, but some are starting to become more egalitarian as business owners discover the power empowering a workforce. However, there is still a long way to go!
Families are full of politics too!
Do you remember when you were younger, who made all of the decisions for you?
It was probably your parents. They believed they were making the best choices for you, but probably gave you little chance to choose for yourself. Even as you have grown older, I bet your mother still believe she knows best.
It should be everybody's duty to be involved in making decisions that can affect everyone, and the way we do this in a democratic country is through elections and voting. Remember that voting is your chance to have your voice heard and if you don’t vote next time there is an opportunity, you can’t complain about the decisions made by politicians that affect your life.
After all, life is very political!
